Media & Friends

Facebook is kind of like a black hole. People go there to fill the void, but never find what they are looking for. You see folks around scrolling until their thumbs get tired. What did you say? I’m sorry I wasn’t listening; I was busy ignoring you on my phone, only I’m not sorry. I’m guilty as charged because I am on Facebook as well here and there. Here’s the thing though, there’s a time and place for everything. There’s something about the people my age that are oblivious to that. They think spending time together means sitting next to each other, not talking, and surfing social media. This is my biggest pet peeve. Ever since I was a pre-teen, I can recall inviting a friend to spend the night for a sleepover and her hogging the computer to “check her Myspace”. Does that sound familiar? It was always frustrating for me because I always felt ignored. Things haven’t changed a whole lot since then.
There should be something new come out called “Phone Etiquette” and everyone should be taught this; young and old. Phones can keep loved ones connected, but also keep most apart even when they’re in the same room. Lots of people get tired of seeing everyone’s forehead. I’m a big stickler for making memories without having to post every single detail, location, and tag everyone who was with me. Pictures are selective although I tend to send most pictures I want to be seen to my family and friends individually. I believe in privacy and not being broadcasted for everything I do in my day. I’m not wrong for that either. Do the people around you a favor and put the phone down if they came out of their way to do something as little as have a conversation with you or even spend some time with you.

Sincerely,
